Terrific 2's

2 Year Olds

Monday

6:30 - 7:15 p.m.

Wednesday

10:00 - 10:45 a.m.

A parent-child participation program for you and your favorite two year old. A short playtime will be followed by a structured program that will include books, seasonal rhymes, finger plays and some movement. No class on Monday night, January 15th.

Lunchbox Stories

3 - 6 Year Olds

Tuesday

11:45 - 12:45 p.m.

This two part program starts with stories, games and activities. Siblings and caregivers are then invited to join the fun with a picnic lunch. Please remember to bring a bag lunch and drink.

Stories and More

3 - 5 Year Olds

Tuesday 

7:00 - 7:30 p.m.

More than just books! Enjoy stories presented in various formats, along with songs, finger plays and creative movement.

Drop-In Programs
No registration is necessary

Talk and Toys
Monday & Friday mornings

10:30 - 11:30 a.m.

A wonderful way for you and your children to meet new friends or to spend time with people you know and enjoy. Held in a large and airy room on the lower level of the library, this casual, unstructured hour combines all the best ingredients of a successful playgroup with none of the wear and tear to your furniture. The Library provides all the toys. Friday programs run throughout the year.  Mondays resume October 2nd, and continue through May 2001.

Mother Goose Lap Time

3 - 14 months

1st Thursday of every month

9:15 - 10:00 a.m.

This is a special program designed for babies up to 14 months and their caregivers. With songs, stories, rhymes and bounces, we have a great time helping the little ones develop language skills. We'll also take a few minutes to introduce some great picture books.

Tiny Tots

15 - 24 months

1st Thursday of every month

10:30 - 11:15 a.m.

This is a program for toddlers 15 - 24 months. Each monthly program will include a short playtime followed by books, group songs, finger plays and movement. No registration required, just bring your toddler and join the fun. 

Stories on the Couch

Preschool

Thursdays

10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

Snuggle up and enjoy informal stories on the couch with Grandma Ishkabibbel, a volunteer at the Windsor Public Library.

Free or reduced admission for: The Science Center of Connecticut, Roaring Brook Nature Center, New England Air Museum, Children's Museum of Holyoke, Mashantucket Pequot Museum, Wadsworth Athenaeum, Springfield Science Museum, Springfield Museum of Fine Arts, Connecticut Valley Historical Museum and the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum. Reduced admission to Mystic Aquarium.

Special Programs

Homework Club

Grades 4 - 5

Monday through Thursday

3:30 - 5:30 p.m.

Our homework club for 4th and 5th graders provides a place and time for the children to do their homework, with assistance from library staff members available.  Children can sign up for 2, 3, or 4 afternoons a week, and will be bused to the library from their schools.  Register in person beginning at 7 p.m. for each session.  The dates for the 3 sessions this year are:

Session 1:  Sept. 25  - Dec. 14, 2000:  

Register: Sept. 5 - Sept. 11, 2000

Session 2: Jan. 2 - Mar. 15, 2001: 

Register: Nov. 27 - Dec. 4, 2000

Session 3:  Mar. 26 - May 31, 2001: 

Register: Feb. 5 - Feb. 12, 2001

Introduction to the Internet

Parenting Materials

The Children's Department offers parents a wide selection of materials dealing with the educational and informational aspects of parenting. Come to the Children's Department the next time you visit Windsor Public Library, and browse through our Parenting Section. We also offer Parent/Child Information Packs, dealing with such specific topics as death, divorce, moving, and even toilet learning. And for grandparents, we offer Grandparent Packs, consisting of pre-selected materials including books, cassette tapes, videos and toys, directed towards specific age groups, i.e. children 0-12 months, or 3-5 years. The loan period for Grandparent Packs is one week.

Teacher's Corner

Collections

Teachers may phone Kidspace (285-1914) and have a collection put together for them by our children's team. We'll have it checked out on their card and ready to go.

Storytime Visits

Come with us to visit various nursery schools and daycare centers in the Windsor area to tell stories to children and talk about the library.

The Children's Collection

Books

We have fiction and nonfiction covering every imaginable subject from Mother Goose to Medieval castles. We have Board Books for babies and a large collection of parenting books, which complete the collection.

Books to Go

"Books to Go" is designed for busy parents who don't have time to stay and browse in our library. Any member of our Kidspace team will personally select up to 10 books for your child. Call us at 285-1914 for more information.

Magazines

We have subscriptions to 21 different magazines, from Ranger Rick to Sports Illustrated for Kids.

Videos

We have a collection of over 1,400 children's videos from the classics to the newest releases.

Cassettes and Music CD's

We have a collection of over 400 books on tape, and various music cassettes for loan. Kidspace has many music CD's to lend as well.

Electronic Media

Kidspace has two Macintosh computers with CD ROM's for research and homework purposes. There are also two Macintosh computers dedicated to games for children of all ages. Please sign up at the Kidspace desk in order to use these computers. Over 75 CD ROM's circulate for home use. You may also call Kidspace at 285-1914 for more information.
