About the tutoring program
The Wilson Branch Library Tutoring Program is a free program designed to give students extra help and practice in the areas of math, reading, writing and general homework. A volunteer tutor works one-on-one with a child in grades 1-8. The program usually begins the first week of October and ends on Memorial Day.
Students are expected to bring materials from school to work on with the tutor. Additional educational materials and worksheets are available in the library.

Apply to be a student
We accept applications for students in grades 1-8. Participants in the program must be residents of Windsor, though they need not attend Windsor schools. Students are asked to bring materials from school to work with the Tutor together. Additional educational materials and worksheets are available in the Library.
Interested in applying to be a student? Please fill out this online application to the best of your ability. There are physical applications available to pick up at the circulation desk. Students are matched on a first come, first serve basis based on the availability of volunteer tutors.
Apply to be a tutor
We are always looking for more volunteer tutors to join the program. It’s a wonderful way to give back to your community. Tutors must be over 16 years old and be able to commit to being in the library for their weekly sessions*. Commitments and scheduling are flexible for volunteers. Tutors may choose to work with a student from as little as six weeks to the entire school year.
Prospective tutors submit an application and work with the tutoring coordinator to determine days, times, grade levels and subjects that they are interested in teaching. They are then matched with a student. First-time tutors are given verbal and written support on how to implement the initial session with the coordinator. The coordinator will sit in briefly during this session if requested to help the tutor and the student develop an initial rapport.
*Windsor students may participate in this program to earn hours toward their required community service goals.
You may contact the Tutoring Coordinator via four ways:

In person: Wilson Branch Library (365 Windsor Avenue, Windsor, CT 06095)
The coordinator is available on the same days that the program meets: Monday-Wednesday October through May.
