    Saturday, May 08 2021 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Wilson Branch Library, 365 Windsor Ave, Windsor, CT 06095, USA

World Migratory Bird Day is celebrated twice each year: on the second Saturday in May when birds return to their nesting sites and again on the second Saturday in October, when birds travel to their non-breeding grounds.

Join us on Saturday, May 8 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM for a Birding 101 workshop. In this 60-min workshop, we will learn about birds and how to identify them. Together, we will explore the ways scientists study birds and some important research questions they attempt to answer. We will also learn ways to can get involved in collecting citizen science data that can be available to scientists worldwide. Presented by the Connecticut Audubon Society's Greater Hartford Education Outreach Program.

  • Day of Tears Virtual Performance (Wilson)

    Saturday, June 12 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:45 pm
Wilson Branch Library, 365 Windsor Ave, Windsor, CT 06095, USA

As a precursor to our Juneteenth Celebration, we present a virtual, dramatic reading of "Day of Tears," Julius Lester's riveting novel-in-dialogue on Saturday, June 12 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. "Day of Tears" tells the story of the largest sale of enslaved individuals in American history. In early March, 1859, a Georgia plantation owner sold over 450 people to cover his gambling debts; this auction would affect hundreds of lives for generations to come.

Join Director Laurie Maria Cabral and the "Day of Tears" cast for this free public performance via Zoom. Suitable for children in grades 3 and older.

Registration required by June 7 to receive zoom link. https://www.windsorlibrary.com/wilson-events/sign-up-for-a-wilson-program/
